Dear DreamMaker,
Nelson Mandela famously said that he learned “courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.” In this same spirit, we celebrate courage during June. Being afraid is a fact of life — it’s choosing to do the right thing, in spite of feeling terrified or powerless, that makes one courageous. And so we recognize the communities that have displayed incredible bravery, throughout history and today, in working to confront barriers to opportunity as they have closed the economic gap. This month’s Juneteenth and Pride celebrations are fierce reminders that staying steadfast in the courage of one’s convictions, against all odds, can turn the tide toward freedom. Each act of bravery is a thread that ties to our hopes and pulls them that much closer to us. Together, through acts of courage large and small, we are weaving a vibrant tapestry of possibilities.
